Sculpture
Dalebrook. This sculpture is a symbolic image of swimming at the tidal pool. The various materials used are symbols of various things: the body is part of a discarded animal rubbing post from a game park = the idea that after a wallow/swim the person can towel themselves off and exfoliate. The head is a slotted spoon = your thoughts and head are numbed and refreshed by the cold water = allowing endorphin to be released from glands and to give a sense of joy. The three old nails are representative of the three parts that make up a person = body, mind and soul. The legs are from a vintage lounge couch = they support and hold up the person. The frame in front of the diver = the tidal pool that has boundaries = made of Oregon pine as it has been such a special place in Cape Town for a long time. The steps covered in rather poorly attached times = the decay and lack of upkeep that has become evident in places of this city. The rock on the far side of the diver = the fact that Cape Town has rocks that anchor all that is built and hold fast as are the rocks around the Dalebrook pool.
